The wheat microsatellite consortium (WMC) initially developed 538 microsatellites from Chinese Spring (CS). A total of 258 microsatellite reactions amplifying simple patterns were examined on the CS nulli/tetrasomic series, which assigned 426 alleles to linkage groups. These microsatellites were also mapped in polymorphic populations including Opata x W7984 (ITMI) and Wuhan x Maringa. Primary map integration was facilitated using the ITMI population and segregation data available on “Graingenes” for RFLPs (Nelson et al.) and GWM microsatellites (Roder et al.). Additional microsatellite alleles were positioned via comparative mapping. In total we have integrated approximately 250 WMC microsatellites with existing GWM microsatellite map. This is part of an on-going effort to develop a high density, consensus map in wheat.
