Mitogenic effects of phytohemagglutinin, form "M", on isolated microspore culture of barley was studied. The L1 modified medium with 3 mg/l phenylacetic acid and 1 mg/l benzylaminopurin supplemented with 0.3 and 0.7 mg/l PHAm were used. The number of embryos, number of green plantlets and number of albino plantlets per 40000 microspores for this medium was not significantly different from the control. However, a decrease of the period of time for embryo development from 20-24 days to 18-20 days was observed, which can be attributed to the mitogenic effects of PHA.
