The breeding work on soybean at the Agricultural Institute Osijek has aimed on the development of high-yielding and stable cultivars, good grain quality into 00-II maturity group. The objective of this research was to assess the genetic advance in grain yield and grain quality of 33 promising lines in comparison to four standard cultivars I maturity group during three-years period (1998-2000) at Osijek. The promising lines were chosen on the basis of their agronomic values in previous cycle of selection. Phenotypic variability, stability, wide-sense heritability and genetic gain from selection were calculated for grain yield, protein and oil content in grain. The obtained results indicated on genetic advance in major agronomic traits in the soybean breeding program at the Institute.
