The composition of high-molecular weight (HMW) subunits of glutenin encoded by Glu-1 loci in 36 wheat cultivars by (SDS-PAG) electrophoresis was analyzed. The relationship between Glu-1 alleles and bread volume was tested. The analysis proved that Glu-1 loci showed different number of alleles encoding glutenin subunits. Majority of cultivar carried alleles Glu-B1c, or Glu-B1b encoding 7+9 and 7+8 glutenin subunits. Also, there were relatively high occurrence of Glu-A1a encoding subunits and Glu-D1a encoding 2+12 subunits. The cultivars which carried Glu-D1d, Glu-A1b, Glu-B1c had higher bread volume than cultivars which passed other alleles at the same loci.
